Reston Carpet Cleaning Tips: How to Get Ink Out of Carpet

Goodyear-Ink-Stain-Carpet-Patch-1There are different ways and different techniques you can use to remove ink from your carpet, in this article, we’re going to give you different options, so that you can choose the product that you prefer and maybe already have on hand:

  • RUBBING ALCOHOL: Wet a clean piece of cloth with rubbing alcohol and use it on the stain spot, starting form outside the affected area and working your way inwards so that you can prevent the stain from spreading. Keep re-wetting and blotting until the spot is gone. This usually takes thirty minutes or so.
  • WD-40 (or similar spray): Spray the product on the affected area and allow about fifteen to twenty minutes. After that, bring a sponge and soapy water and slowly start blotting the affected area to remove both the ink and the lubricant.
  • DETERGENT: Mix about two cups of water with two teaspoon of the dishwashing detergent (for small spots, you can use one cup of water and one teaspoon of detergent), create a soapy solution and apply this solution onto the stain, you can also dip a cloth into the solution and dab onto the stain. Keep blotting until the stain is completely removed and the ink is gone. This method should works great on small areas.
  • HAIRSPRAY: Although we cannot promise that this method will be very successful, but many people have tried it and they believe that hairspray can help removing ink stains. Some people said that it works just like alcohol and that’s why we do recommend the rubbing alcohol. If you want to try a different technique try to use the hairspray onto the affected area and let it stay in for about three to five minutes. After that you can apply a water mixed with soap blot the area.

With all of these different techniques, at Reston Carpet Cleaning we recommend that you start by doing a test on a corner or invisible area of the carpet before you work on the a big visible area.

WARNING: Some products (especially spray lubricants) can stain your carpet permanently, so be careful. Also, remember to blot (do not rub) and don’t pour the product onto the affected area (this could cause the stain to spread).

After you remove the stain, rinse with warm water, blot the spot well using a dry cloth to remove any water and then leave the area to dry. After that, just fluff the fiber up with your fingers.

If the stain is still there after you attempt these methods, and if the stain still isn’t gone after multiple attempts, call Reston Carpet Cleaning specialists. If you live in the Reston, VA let our professional carpet cleaners take over the job for you.
